Diabetics have the same risk of having a heart attack or stroke as someone with a history of heart attack, and twice the risk of dying from a heart attack compared to non-diabetics, said a Danish study published in the journal Circulation. Researchers, who studied 3.3 million people aged over 30 for five years, said that the increased risk was observed in people at all ages, with either type 1 or type 2 diabetes, who were receiving insulin or other drugs. The study said that when people with diabetes had heart attacks, they were twice as likely to die as non-diabetics.
