Myth: ‘Reach out for baked snacks, not fried’

Potato chips and snacks that claim to be healthier because they’re baked and not fried may not be lower in fat content than the fried stuff. Similar to the guise of the ‘low-fat’ edibles, the grubs that trumpet the ‘baked, not fried’ message are usually fatty to begin with. If a product naturally has a high fat content, baking or frying will not reduce the original amount of fat present in it.

  1. But wouldn’t frying in fats or oil ADD fats?

  2. Yes, of course it will add fats over and above the fats present in the raw food. It’s advisable to use monounsaturated fat oil like Olive oil.
