7 Tips to Prevent Dementia

  1. Consume a low-fat diet.
  2. Reduce intake of linoleic acid found in margarine, butter, and dairy products.
  3. Eat cold-water fish (tuna, salmon, and mackerel) rich in omega-3 fatty acids, at least two to three times a week.
  4. Increase the intake of antioxidants like carotenoids, Vitamin E and Vitamin C that are found in dark-colored fruits and vegetables.
  5. Maintain normal blood pressure.
  6. Avoid exposure to aluminum. Aluminum is found in drinking water, processed cheese, baking powder, antacids, anti-diarrhea preparations, antiperspirants, food cooked in aluminum utensils and coffee made in aluminum-containing percolators. Aluminum cans and aluminum-coated wax containers can also transfer significant quantities of metal to beverages in them.
  7. Stay mentally and socially active throughout your life. Mental and social activities may help delay the onset or slow the progression of dementia.
