Myth: ‘Want to slim down? Go low-fat’
If you thought low-fat yoghurt was a healthy treat for the ‘calorie conscious’, you are wrong. Check out its sugar content, and you will be surprised to find that the ‘low-fat’ yoghurt has a higher calorie count than the same portion of full-fat yoghurt! This is due to the extra sugar added for better taste. Most low-fat eats are supplemented by high-calorie ingredients such as sugar to make it toothsome, once the fat is removed. Since low-fat products assure “lesser calories”, the temptation is to use more of it than the full-fat counterparts, thereby canceling out any ‘good’ the reduced fat might do. Though you might put just a scrape of butter on your bread, the chunk of low-fat cream cheese will do the damage.
