Skin-patch for Parkinson’s

A skin-patch, called Neupro (rotigotine transdermal system), can treat symptoms of early Parkinson’s disease. Parkinson’s, a major cause of memory loss and unsteady steps in old age, is the result of depletion of a chemical (dopamine) in the brain. The patch will deliver Rotigotine, a dopamine-like drug, continuously through the skin. Manufactured by Schwarz Bioscience, US, the drug is well-tolerated, but may have side-effects like skin reactions at the patch-site, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, drowsiness and insomnia.
